Ethnobotanical knowledge and practices among the tribal people of Ranibandh block of Bankura district, West Bengal, India
Abstract
The present research has documented 67 less known medicinal plants with some commonly used plants used by the selected tribal people (Bhumij, Lodha, Kharia, Kora Munda, Oraon, Santal and Savar) of 10 villages of Ranibandh block of Bankura district in West Bengal. These tribal people are dependent on forests for their livelihood and use medicinal plants as a primary healthcare source. In addition, it has gathered the knowledge, practices and experiences on uses of medicinal plants by semi-structured interviews, participant observation, case histories and focused group discussion. This study has established that the known, less known and new valuable medicinal plants can be useful to the other communities and can also be supportive for conservation of resources for future generations.
