Adsorption study of Rhodamine-B on activated carbon derived from coconut leaves
Abstract
Water is essential for all known forms of lives. However, as industry has grown, numerous chemicals like dye are being released into the river directly or indirectly, leading to significant water contamination. Several industrial uses dye in textile, leather, dyeing, and cosmetics related industries. The polluted water causes diseases in humans and harms other species and natural biological groups. Therefore, it is vital to create some technology to limit or address water pollution. Various techniques have been developed for the removal of dyes from waste water.
In this paper, the adsorption of Rhodamine-B (RhB) by Coconut leaves based activated carbon was investigated. Coconut leaves are widely available, inexpensive with high availability of carbon. Due to their highly developed pore architectures, activated carbons have been employed extensively in adsorption. Initially, RhB concentration and temperature played important roles in this adsorption process, and pH had a little effect on RhB adsorption. H3PO4 is used as crucial activator. The influences of initial RhB concentration, temperature and pH on dye adsorption were analyzed. Adsorption kinetics, equilibrium study was carried out. Adsorption equilibrium data were well described by Langmuir isotherm model. Experimental results demonstrated that pseudo-second order kinetic model represented the adsorption kinetics of RhB is well.
