Abstract
The genus Limnophila (Plantaginaceae) comprises aquatic or semi-aquatic herbs native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the Old World. Phylogenetic relationships of the Indian Limnophila were investigated based on nuclear ribosomal ITS. In the present study, 10 species of Limnophila occurring in India have been analyzed. The results of maximum likelihood (ML) analyses strongly support monophyly of the Indian Limnophila. The study also recovered all four sections viz. Limnophila, Connatae, Striatae and Intregrifolia as monophyletic groups. This is the first comprehensive molecular study on the Indian Limnophila
