Impact of plant growth regulators on seed priming
Abstract
Plant growth regulators are chemical molecules produced by plants and have important roles in regulating plant growth and development. Seed priming is a technology of promoting seed germination and plant growth in crop production. Plants are often exposed to abiotic stresses such as drought, heavy metals, heat, cold etc. that induce complex responses resulting in reduced growth as well as crop yield. Seed priming helps plants to obtain an enhanced capacity for rapidly and effectively combating various abiotic stresses Thus, seed priming with phytohormones has emerged as an important tool for mitigating the effects of abiotic stress. Therefore, this review explores the potential function of priming with plant growth regulators in mitigating the negative impacts of abiotic stresses, as well as proposed mechanisms for mitigation and priming’s effects on crop output.
