Diatom Flora from Hindon River, Saharanpur, U.P., India
Abstract
Abstract: In the present exploration total of 51 Diatom taxa have been reported from 9 different sampling sites of Hindon River and its tributary rivers in the area of district Saharanpur (U.P.), India. In the present study, recorded 51 taxa of Diatoms belong to 9 orders, 14 families and 19 genera viz. Achnanthidium, Amphora, Cocconeis, Craticula, Ctenophora, Cyclotella, Cymbella, Encyonema, Fragilaria, Frustulia, Gomphonema, Hantzschia, Navicula, Nitzschia, Pinnularia, Placoneis, Rhopalodia, Tabellaria and Tryblionella. The majority of species recorded from the genus Nitzschia due to high nutrient quality in water. Second majority from genus Navicula in water of Hindon River and tributaries. Gomphonema truncatum and Tryblionella Hungarian recorded only S2, S8 and S5, S6 sites respectively. Diatom flora in the Saharanpur district is rich and diverse, many species are good source of pharma products, antibacterial properties, enzyme inhibition and lipid. Water quality bit good in Pavdhoi and quality changes in Dhamola, which again reform with flows of rivers.
