COAL PALYNOLOGY: AN APPLIED ASPECT OF PALAEOBOTANY
Abstract
Coal is an important fossil fuel. It is the product of vegetation which existed in the geologic past. Palynology, the study of spores, pollen, and other micro entities of plant affiliation, provides an effective parameter for corelation and age determination of coal beds. Palacobotany thus exhibits a frontier of applied aspect through palaeo-palynology. An introductory review with a prompting for initiation in this branch of botany is given in the article. The coal palynology in India is keeping pace with the latest trends of researches and is catering to our need of biostratigraphy on economic front
