EFFECT OF SEWAGE WATER IRRIGATION ON SEED GERMINATION, GROWTH AND YIELD

Gorakhpur is located in the Terai belt of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, India which lies between 26°13′N and 27°2′N and 83°05′E and 83°56′E. On an average, the supply of domestic water is 77.60 LPCD (Liter per capita per day) and nearly 70% of this amount of domestic water is being released in Gorakhpur city as wastewater which is around 65.84 MLD and still it is needed to develop effective and affordable solutions for management. Therefore, studies were carried out on the effects of different concentrations of the sewage water and treated sewage. Sewage water treated by using aquatic macrophyte like Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms, Pistia stratiotes L. and Hydrilla verticillata (L.f.) Royle in laboratory. For the study of seed germination certain plant were selected on the basis of crop matrix. Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench show 90% germination and attain a height 21.5 cm during 20 days. Oryza sativa L show 100% germination and attain a height 14.5 cm during 28 days. Zea mays L. show 100% germination and attain a height 47.5cm during 25 days and Capsicum annuum L. show 100% germination and attain a height 3.8 cm during 28 days with treated sewage water. Studies on the plant growth and yield were conducted in certain selected plants on the basis of the crop matrix. For the study of seedling growth, experiments were conducted in different concentrations of sewage water in selected seed (10 seed per plant). In comparison to the fresh water irrigated plant, the biologically treated sewage water irrigated plant show a better growth and yield in reference to Capsicum annuum L., Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., Solanum melongena L., Tagetes erecta L. and Calendula suffruticosa Vahl.
